This structure serves as the new entrance to the famous Waitomo Glow Worm cave. The beautiful structure is by the New Zealand firm Architecture Workshop, in Wellington, NZ. The entrance works great, however part of what allowed for this project to happen, was the new hole blasted into the cave, to avoid the only natural entrance which is a Mauri sacred burial ground. The burial ground had caused the cave to be closed for a couple decades. It seems to be a bit of a controversial issue in this small town that makes it’s money off the caves, but does not appear to agree with the blasting of a new entrance.
