Day 43 – Christchurch, NZ
So as many of you may know, over 60% of the downtown core of Christchurch, New Zealand was destroyed, or required demolition, following the series of earthquakes that struck the area a couple of years ago. Most of the downtown is still closed off, and I couldn’t get any views of the new cardboard cathedral that is under construction. I only ended up with one evening there so the photographs are a bit dark, however the first two are of the downtown core. The last three are of the new exterior temporary shopping mall that has been designed and constructed using shipping containers. The atmosphere and feel of the mall was actually quite amazing, and I hope that when the downtown re opens the mall remains as it creates an excellent pedestrian mall and memory of the event.
