The city of Chandigarh was designed by Le Corbusier, and construction began, demolishing many villages in the way, in the 1950’s following the independence of India. Le Corbusier, his partner and brother Pierre Jeannenet, and the rest of the team together spent approximately 17 years working in Chandigarh. The first photographs are of the parks, main circulation boulevards and main shopping sector. The city is divided into sectors that measure 800 x 1200m and are divided by the tree lined boulevards, a city designed for the car. The lake is a manmade lake designed by Le Corbusier as well. The final three images are of the architecture office, designed by Pierre Jeannenet, where Chandigarh and many of it’s buildings were designed.
