422 & 424 Wellington Restaurant

Adaptive Reuse & Addition

The existing 3 storey heritage semi-detached buildings had been boarded up for years following the previous use as a club, which was followed by squatters and fires in the building. This project converts the existing building into a single restaurant that increases the dramatic feel within the building, engages with the site and connects better with the surrounding context on King and Wellington Streets.

The existing building is restored on the exterior and on the interior the brick has been exposed and new double height spaces created by removing portions of the existing floors. The new addition provides new circulation amenities as well as adding a 2+ storey dining space which frames a view to the patio and historic buildings to the north.  The existing building is underpinned and a new basement has been added at the addition to provide service spaces to support the new restaurant.
